Subjects Of Surveillance

OCTOBER 2021 TO MAY 2022 | EXHIBITION | PERFORMANCE| WORKSHOP

15 OCTOBER 2021 TO 31 MAY 2022| SEEING YOU (,) SEEING ME | EXHIBITION

It is a well known fact that we are always monitored in the name of our own securities and of the society’s. We are coerced into accepting this by different methodologies and technologies, the most common being an active internalization of policing the self and our immediacies.

The confluence of the State and Market Forces is increasingly altering and disordering our individual and social traits for its own benefit ; the entire society has been operating like an open prison where we function with an everyday consciousness of being watched – which has in multiple ways altered the public’s behavior – deepening and domesticizing practices of discipline and punishment.

This mirroring of the State by the individual in our cultural context has undertones of caste, gender, race, region biases in its working methodologies.

‘Seeing You, Seeing Me’ is under the thematic ‘Subjects of Surveillance, which in small ways attempts to decode the methodologies of how power is seeing us and how we look back at power via our own distorted hacks.

three musicians, Yesu, Bhanu, and Seenu, weaved their story with wry humour, and satire, to highlight broader themes of contemporary Dalit identity.

In the loss of translation of languages – verbal, gestural, implicit, intentional – is the power to speak to power. Naveen Chourey will be at the Conflictorium exploring Language as a technique to subvert surveillance.

In his own words, @naveenchourey is a writer while performing and a performer while sitting with pen and paper. Constantly torn between the two sides of his being; poetry keeps him together; makes him – ‘Mukammal’.
