Reading Group: Decoding The Spectator

MARCH 2021 TO JUNE 2021 | READING GROUP

Conflictorium started a monthly reading group,  The theme for the first reading group was Spectatorship, where we were hoping to engage with texts that may help us explore the Figure of a Spectator in a world that’s increasingly becoming a spectacle.

In the first edition of the reading group participants discussed the subjects of seeing, consuming, processing and multiplying the various information/s thrust on us.

|24 APRIL 2021|

the monthly reading group engaged with ‘Plato’s Allegory of the Cave’ in an attempt to decode ideas around Spectatorship.

|29 MAY 2021|

The monthly reading group on Spectatorship discussed Martin Heidegger’s ‘The Age of World Picture’.

|12 JUNE 2021|

In the month of June, the reading group discussed Freud’s ‘Interpretation of Dreams’ via the lens of spectatorship.

|11 JULY 2021|

The monthly reading group discussed Aristotle’s Poetics in the month of July.

|11 SEPTEMBER 2021|

In the month of September the reading group met to discuss ‘The Work of Representation’ by Stuart Hall.

|30 AUGUST 2022|

A reading-discussion group discussed about seeking voice, articulation and dialogue. This discussion was in reference with Gayatri Spivak’s essay: ‘Can the Subaltern Speak?’
