10 APRIL 2015 TO 11 APRIL 2015 | WORKSHOP

Conflictorim has organized conflict understanding workshop for teach for India fellows facilitated by Deepika Singh from the Centre for Social Justice. The workshop began with exploring the history of Gujarat and Ahmedabad from 1935 to 2009. The session progressed into an elaborate discussion on various identity conflicts, like class, caste, and gender and the idea of marriage as an institution- these issues were linked with understanding the organization of the current education system. The group was made to confront several fundamental questions related to pedagogy through reflecting on how gender identities are taught in schools? Why are dropout rates among tribal girls extremely high- is the offered education relevant to them? Also, how is the current education system accommodating the diverse ethnic population, is it only for the privileged? These inquiries steered the workshop towards understanding the presence of conflict in society and identifying its different manifestations.
