30 MARCH 2019 TO 20 APRIL 2019 | EXHIBITION
Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism along with half a million Mahars proved to be a turning point in history. It led to the rejection of everything brahminical, and the use of songs to represent the philosophy of Dr Ambedkar. This came to be known as ‘Ambedkar Jalsa’.
This Exhibition explores the lives and works of 15 of Maharashtra’s Ambedkarite Shahirs, who not only paved the way for anti-caste music but also constructed a rich body of ‘anti-caste art and aesthetics based on the principles of equality, liberty and fraternity.
